  • Flowserve - Flowserve
  • Houston, TX

Job Description

Your Role and Impact

As a Cost Accounting Supervisor, you will lead a team that delivers accurate, timely cost and inventory insights across multiple manufacturing sites and business platforms. You will work closely with finance and operational leaders to strengthen costing processes, improve data quality, and help the business make informed decisions about product costs, margins, and performance.

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on cost accounting expertise with people leadership and process improvement. Your work will directly support financial performance, operational efficiency, and consistent accounting practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Cost Accounting team by setting priorities, managing workloads, and ensuring timely, accurate deliverables.
  • Partner with finance and business leaders to establish and maintain standard costs, labor rates, overhead rates, and other product-costing methods.
  • Oversee inventory accounting activities, including physical inventory observations, cycle count reviews, inventory valuation, material classifications, and purchase-price variance calculations.
  • Analyze cost, margin, productivity, efficiency, and capacity data to identify business trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support project reviews by validating project costs used for revenue recognition under percentage-of-completion and point-in-time accounting methods.
  • Investigate cost-model, inventory, and financial-reporting issues; identify root causes; and recommend practical process or policy improvements.
  • Provide cost and margin analysis to support customer quotations, project reviews, product decisions, and leadership discussions.
  • Collaborate with accounting, operations, supply chain, engineering, and finance teams on business initiatives and process-improvement projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in cost accounting, manufacturing finance, inventory accounting, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, standard costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, and financial analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to analyze complex financial and operational data.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to varied stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading, supervising, or mentoring an accounting or finance team.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, engineered-product, or project-based business environment.
  • Experience with percentage-of-completion and point-in-time revenue-recognition methods.
  • Experience working in a decentralized or matrixed organization.
  • Experience using ERP and financial systems such as SAP, Infor, or BPC.
  • Experience supporting customer quotations, project profitability reviews, or capacity and productivity analysis.

Benefits

At Flowserve, you’ll find a range of options designed to support you and your family’s needs. We provide resources that help team members invest in their physical, mental, and financial well-being—regardless of role or life stage.

Our benefits may include:

  • Competitive salary

  • Retirement planning and financial wellness resources
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage
  • Parental leave
